What Is CBN?

Whether you are new to using cannabis or not, it is important to keep up with current information on the subject because discoveries are being made regularly.

It has been widely accepted, especially in recent years, that cannabis has important contributions to make in the medical field rather than people simply using it to get high. Slowly but surely, the social stigma that has been attributed to marijuana for many decades is fading away because people have realized it has great medical benefits.

CBN is one of over 100 cannabinoids in cannabis and hemp plants, and each one can have different effects. Some of the most studied and most valuable cannabinoids to date are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), cannabidivarin (CBDV), cannabigerol (CBG), and cannabichromene (CBC).

Some may be familiar to you and some may not. Some may do similar things, or they can do completely different things when related to their psychoactive or medicinal benefits.

The “entourage effect” is what it is called when different cannabinoids work together to create even more beneficial qualities than when they work alone.

How Is CBN Created In Cannabis?

A cannabinoid that has not received as much attention because it is minimal in cannabis is cannabinol (CBN). Many people assume that since this cannabinoid is derived from THC and is far less potent, that it is of little value since it is hardly present in the flower of cannabis at all.

When cannabis plants produce enzymes, it will turn CBGA into raw cannabinoids such as THCA, CBDA, and CBCA. When you heat THCA, it is then turned into THC and THCV.

These cannabinoids are psychoactive and make you high. When THCA is aged, it turns into CBNA which then converts into CBN. Researchers and those in the cannabis industry have begun to realize that CBN can have real therapeutic benefits for those that are sensitive to THC.

What Are The Benefits Of CBN?

CBN is known for its powerful sedative effects and has become a great selling point for those that market cannabinol. Some people claim that CBN makes you sleepy and that 5mg of CBN is equal to a 10mg valium as far as relaxation of the body goes. This can be a big deal for anyone that suffers from insomnia.

Different strains of cannabis make you feel different ways and have different benefits. If you are looking for help getting to sleep, then you should look for products like edibles, capsules, topicals, or weed with high CBN content.

Along with having benefits as a sedative, CBN researchers have also noted that it is capable of slowing the onset of symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

More research has revealed that it has antibacterial benefits as a topical product for things like methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus  (MRSA). It is thought it may also be useful in fighting skin conditions such as psoriasis and even help treat burns.

With further research, it could be possible that even more beneficial things will be discovered about not just CBN, but all of the other lesser cannabinoids in cannabis as well.

Everyone used to refer to aspirin as a wonder drug. It seems that cannabis and all its components might be the new wonder drug since has already been found to be so effective in providing relief for so many different medical issues.
